Stena Aluminium has switched to using only renewable electricity. This means that carbon dioxide emissions from electricity use are now 96 percent lower than before.
Since September 2020, Stena Aluminium has only used renewable electricity with the origin label hydropower. The guarantee of origin is proof that the electricity is produced from renewable energy sources. It is regulated by EU directives.
- Producing aluminium from recycled raw material is very energy efficient compared to production from new raw material. Now that we have switched to renewable electricity from hydropower, we are further reducing our climate impact, says Erika Richard, Environmental Manager at Stena Aluminium.
The transition to hydropower means that carbon dioxide emissions from electricity use at Stena Aluminium have decreased by 96 percent. In absolute terms, this is a reduction of more than 2,000 tonnes per year compared with the previous*.
- The reduction is a step in the right direction for the climate and is at the same time positive for those customers of Stena Aluminium who include suppliers' emissions in their climate reporting, says Erika Richard.
*2369 tonnes less CO2e based on electricity consumption in 2018, 2179 tonnes less CO2e based on electricity consumption in 2019. Calculation based on the residual mix in the Nordic countries.
