The aluminium loop

Aluminum possesses numerous exceptional properties that make it an ideal material for producing long-lasting products. It is lightweight, durable, and resistant to rust, among other things. Furthermore, aluminum is incredibly easy to recycle, and a significant advantage is that it can be recycled infinitely many times while retaining its durability. In fact, 75% of all aluminum ever produced is still in use today, compared to a mere 6% for plastic.

The benefits of recycling aluminum are tremendous, particularly in terms of energy savings. When recycled, aluminum requires 95% less energy to produce than when it is extracted from bauxite ore. At Stena Aluminium, we work in close collaboration with industries and municipalities to recover vast volumes of aluminum, which results in a yearly reduction of over 1,000,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions. Johan Thunholm, Managing Director at Stena Aluminium, emphasizes the importance of these efforts towards sustainability.
